Oily mess

Yesterday i discovered a puddle of oil beneath the Roadster when visiting it for a spring check up - today i investigated the situation and found it to be engine oil apparently leaking from the hole where the clutch lever reaches out of the gear box housing.
Since there shouldnt be oil anywhere near this opening i'b quiate confused on the meaning of this - originally i suspected the radial shaft seal behind the flywheel but for the oil leak out the hole the complete clutch would have to be covered in oil.
If anyone could give me a tip, i'd be very grateful.  Here's some pictures for better illustration of the problem:

Flashback: 2001 Mazdaspeed Roadster

Over 10 years ago, Mazdaspeed built a 200 bhp N/A roadster concept - shame that all this development never made it into a large scale production...

Walkthrough: IL Motorsport in Cologne/Germany

Last weekend i had some business in Cologne and took the opportunity to pay a visit to the only MX-5 specific shop in germany, IL Motorsport. I was a bit reluctant beforehand, however it turned out to be a rather nice place with some cool parts and cars on display. I did some shopping and chatted for some time with the bloke there and they seem to have planned some nice projects for german fans of forced induction (more TÜV appoved kits). More interesting for me, they also work on an IRTB conversion for NA/NB based on the Jenvey kit and Megasquirt ECUs. I'm curious on what the outcome will be. Overall, the people were very friendly and one can look at all the cars and parts as one pleases. So, if you're in the area you might as well drop by and check them out. In the mean time, here's some pictures of their showroom:

Megasquirt build (Part 2)

Yesterday i found some time to continue working on my ECU: Firstly i soldered the 76 pin Denso connector to the adapter board...

...and then wired the adapter board to the main board. This is the step that gives the ECU the car specificity, so one should double check all the connections:

Followed by the addition of specific add-ons:

Then it was time to reinstall the MS2/E card and connect the unit to the computer to see what's what:

I managed to upload a firmware as well as connect to Tunerstudio and load a base map:

So i decided to mount everything in the case:

Since the car is stored during winter i will only be able to test all sensors and connections in spring when it's back on the road. Till then one has to practice patience....

Megasquirt build (Part 1)

During the holidays i was able to find some time to start building my megasquirt ECU.
It's actually a straightforward process and very easy to accomplish since board layout as well as documentation are excellent.
Starting out with the resistors and diods...

...working you way though transistors, capacitors, ICs...

...comparing the standard MAP sensor with the MAP Daddy 4 (right):

Installed MAP sensor:

Installed the connectors for the MS2/E board:

And finally connected it:

As of now the ECU should be able to communicate with the computer and uploaded with the firmware. I still have to connect the DENSO specific adapter board and all the car specific jumpers.
Looking very good so far and only took a few hours to get there.

New garage for this winter...

Today i put my Roadster away for the winter - luckily, i found a nice spot in a private parking garage. Here are a few impressions (note my trusty winter car in the background - '93 323F :) ).

Put on my Autopyjama as well, fits really nicely and allows access through the drivers door, if necessary.
